Hotels in Bern, Switzerland
Hotels for a Great Holiday by Nancy Eben
The capital city of Switzerland Bern
is a beautiful city. The city got its name from the German word for bear.
The bear was the first animal hunted during the building of the city. It
is a medieval city, founded in the year 1191, around the River Aare. Bern
city provides with the finest examples of medieval town architecture in
The city has successfully preserved
its rich heritage, over the centuries and this is the reason that in 1983
the UNESCO awarded Berne as a World Heritage Site. One can still see some
splendid sandstone buildings, beautiful fountains, and historical towers
of the gone medieval times in the city. Bern has emerged as a major tourist
center in Switzerland and with this; the New Bern hotels provide excellent
services with luxurious comforts during the stay in the city. Bern is the
most charming city of all the Swiss cities. It is an ideal city for taking
a relaxed break over a long weekend.
The best way to explore the city
is on foot, though the city has an excellent rail and road networks. The
city streets are adorned, with fountains, clock towers and miles of long
arcades. Visitor's can begin the city tour with visiting the stunning 15th
century Gothic cathedral. This cathedral has the highest spire in Switzerland,
providing excellent views of the Bernese Alps. Berne has quite a few attractions
and historic sites, along with an active cultural life. This is the very
place, which is world renowned, for the Toblerone chocolate bar, which
is made here, and then the Emmental cheese, known as Swiss Cheese, is made
|The noble dome of the House of Parliament
and the Prison Tower are other places of interest in Berne. Berne's Museum
of Fine Arts and Berne's Historical Museum are interesting places for historians
and those interested to know the country's history. The biggest attraction
of the city is the atmosphere. The city traffic is kept at bay, and not
allowed in the Old town, giving visitors the freedom to wander on the streets,
and explore the city.
The city also provides with suitable
accommodation in its grand five stars to budget hotels. Hotels in New Bern
NC offer good value, especially when one can have an inexpensive place
and still get a tranquil room overlooking historic cobbled streets, with
the sounds from the church bells in the background. It is always recommended
to book ahead for New Bern hotels.
